abstract = {Arsha (Piles/Haemorrhoids) is an ailment that affects all economical groups of population. Though the disease is within the limits of management, it has its own complications like severe haemorrhage, inflammation and thrombosis, by which a patient gets severe pain and is unable to continue his routine work. Haemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen veins around the anus and lower part of rectum. They usually occur as a result of altered dietary pattern, altered life style, genetics, and pregnancy. Acharya Sushruta, Charaka, Vaghbhata mentioned and explained various Ahara and Vihara concept regarding Arsha roga. Ahara, Vihara and Ahara-Kalpana (home remedies) play an important role in prevention of Arsha roga. Prevention of Arsha is crucial for lowering disease incidence and thus minimizing the individual, familial and Public health burden. Ahara rich in green vegetables and fruits are beneficial; whereas frequent meat consumptions increase the risk. Alcohol, mental tension, occupational hazards also adding its effect on it. There is evidence of the effectiveness of Ahara (Diet) & Vihara (Lifestyle) modification on Arsha prevention & management. This article discusses the importance of Ahara & Vihara in the prevention of Arsha. Purpose of this article is to create the awareness regarding modification of life style for the prevention of Arsha (piles) by following strict Pathya Ahara and Vihara according to Ayurveda. The article concludes that further studies are necessary to understand the effectiveness of diet and lifestyle modifications in controlling Arsha.},
