  • Abstract:
  • This paper examines the consequences of highway development on agricultural land reduction in rapidly urbanizing areas, focusing on the multifaceted impacts this transformation has on agricultural sustainability, local economies, and environmental integrity. As urban areas expand, the demand for improved transportation infrastructure leads to the construction of new highways, which often results in the conversion of fertile agricultural lands into paved roads. The study underscores the urgent need for integrated urban planning and policy frameworks that prioritize land preservation strategies and sustainable growth. Recommendations are provided to enhance compensation mechanisms, support sustainable agricultural practices, and ensure that future infrastructure developments harmoniously coexist with the agricultural landscapes they transform.
