Modern Learning Environments: Concepts, Evidence, and Design Principles

  • Unique Paper ID: 184092
  • PageNo: 124-127
  • Abstract:
  • Modern learning environments (MLEs) blend physical, digital, and social dimensions to support active, collaborative, personalized, and equitable learning. This article synthesizes theoretical perspectives (socio-constructivism, Universal Design for Learning, TPACK, and the Community of Inquiry framework), reviews empirical evidence on learning spaces and pedagogies (e.g., active learning classrooms, blended and hybrid models), and distills design principles and implementation guidance for K–12 and higher education. We integrate findings from large-scale studies of classroom design, meta-analyses of active learning, and evaluations of flexible learning spaces to propose a practical, evidence-informed framework. The article concludes with implications for policy and practice, including equity-by-design, data-informed iteration, and leadership for sustained change.
