  • Abstract:
  • Democracy plays a significant role in ensuring equitable access to medicines and healthcare services. The principles of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation embedded in democratic governance influence the development and implementation of policies related to drug pricing and healthcare affordability. This paper reviews the relationship between democratic institutions and healthcare systems, highlighting how public engagement, freedom of information, and policymaking processes shape the cost and accessibility of essential medicines. It further examines the challenges faced by democratic nations, such as pharmaceutical lobbying and economic inequality, while discussing policy strategies that strengthen affordable healthcare delivery. The review concludes that democratic systems, through inclusive governance and public accountability, create stronger foundations for equitable and sustainable health outcomes.
