abstract = {Management education across the world is undergoing a period of introspection, driven by growing concerns regarding the ethical, social, and contextual limitations of dominant Western-centric pedagogical models. In India, these concerns have gained renewed attention following the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which explicitly advocates the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into higher education. This conceptual paper examines how Indian Knowledge Systems can inform a substantive reorientation of management education rather than being treated as symbolic or peripheral content.
Indian Knowledge Systems are conceptualised as a dynamic and practice-oriented body of wisdom encompassing philosophical thought, governance traditions, indigenous pedagogy, and values-based leadership. Drawing upon interdisciplinary literature from management education, leadership studies, Indian philosophy, and higher education policy, this paper proposes a structured conceptual framework for integrating IKS into management education. The framework identifies curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment practices, and institutional culture as key domains of integration.
By aligning indigenous intellectual traditions with the objectives of NEP 2020, the paper contributes to ongoing debates on contextualising and decolonising management education. It offers practical insights for business schools seeking to balance global relevance with indigenous rootedness while fostering ethical leadership, sustainability orientation, and long-term value creation.
The paper concludes by outlining implications for institutions, faculty, and policymakers, and suggests directions for future empirical research.},
