GAIT PATTERN ANALYSIS IN TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS COMPARED TO CISGENDER MALES AND FEMALES

  • Gait pattern analysis is an emerging field within forensic science that focuses on identifying individuals based on their walking style. This study examines the gait characteristics of transgender individuals in comparison with cisgender males and females. Gait, defined as the manner of walking, is influenced by anatomical, biomechanical, and physiological factors and is considered a unique behavioral biometric trait. In this research, gait samples were collected using a forensic thumbprint ink method, which provided clear footprint impressions for analysis. Key parameters such as step length, stride length, step width, foot angle, swing time, and stance time were measured and compared across three groups consisting of transgender women, cisgender males, and cisgender females within the same age range. Statistical analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA to determine the significance of differences among groups. The results indicated that transgender individuals exhibited intermediate gait characteristics, sharing similarities with both cisgender males and females. Spatial parameters showed closer resemblance to female gait, while certain temporal parameters aligned more with male gait. The findings highlight the complexity of gait as a biometric tool and emphasize the importance of inclusive forensic analysis. This study contributes to both forensic identification research and the broader understanding of gender-related biomechanical variations.
