abstract = {Forensic entomology plays a crucial role in criminal investigations by analysing insect activity on decomposing remains to estimate the post-mortem interval (PMI). This study focuses on comparing entomological evidence in indoor and outdoor environments, emphasizing differences in insect colonization, decomposition rates, and environmental influences. Experimental observations were conducted using animal remains placed in controlled indoor and natural outdoor settings. Key variables such as temperature, humidity, insect activity, and stages of decomposition were recorded over multiple days. The findings reveal that outdoor environments facilitate rapid insect colonization due to direct exposure to environmental elements like sunlight, airflow, and open access for insects. Blowflies and ants were among the earliest colonizers outdoors, accelerating decomposition through maggot activity. In contrast, indoor environments showed delayed insect access due to physical barriers such as walls, doors, and windows, leading to slower decomposition and reduced insect diversity. This comparative study highlights the importance of environmental context in forensic investigations. Understanding these differences enhances the accuracy of PMI estimation and aids in reconstructing crime scenes, including determining whether a body has been moved. The study reinforces the significance of forensic entomology as a reliable scientific tool in medico-legal investigations.},
