  • Abstract:
  • The Indian retail sector has undergone significant transformation in recent years. Shopping is no longer confined to local shops or large retail stores, as customers can now discover products through social media, compare prices online, make payments using UPI, and receive their purchases at their doorsteps within a short period. This paper reviews how technological advancements, changing consumer expectations, and emerging retail formats are reshaping the future of Indian retail. It examines the role of technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, digital payments, and automated supply chains, alongside emerging formats such as quick commerce, social commerce, micro-fulfilment centres, and phygital retail. The paper also explores the opportunities and challenges these developments present for traditional retailers, online businesses, and consumers. It argues that the future of Indian retail will largely depend on the integration of digital and physical shopping experiences rather than the complete replacement of one by the other.
