abstract = {This study assessed the impacts of land use/land cover (LULC) changes on land surface temperature (LST) in Jos Metropolis, Plateau State, Nigeria, between 1985 and 2025. Multi-temporal Landsat imagery and Geographic Information Systems were used to examine five years (1985, 1995, 2005, 2015 and 2025), map land-cover classes, derive LST, and evaluate relationships between land cover and temperature. Results indicate substantial landscape transformation: vegetation declined by 296.382 km², while built-up areas, farmland and bare surfaces increased by 160.202 km², 120.149 km² and 24.029 km². Mean LST increased from 21.5195°C in 1985 to 24.7553°C in 2025, a rise of 3.2358°C. Pearson analysis showed positive correlations between LST and built-up areas, farmland and bare surfaces, and negative correlations with vegetation and water bodies. The findings indicate an association between land-cover transformations and surface warming, supporting vegetation conservation and climate-sensitive urban planning. Correlations are based on five observations and should be interpreted cautiously.},
