Abstract
Cam and follower are the most important components used in modern machines such as IC engines, Reciprocating saw. Increasing cam strength with minimum material increases its operating range, ensures less dynamic loads and increases its life. In present investigation regular and I cross section (scooped) cam has been analyzed to study stress induced and deformation using FEA. The three dimensional cam and follower models are developed in UG. These models are then exported to FEA software to perform static linear analysis. The results are compared with regular and scooped cam. The proposed I cross section (scooped) cam has shown better strength compared to regular cam. This can ensure better operating range and increase it life
