  • Abstract:
  • Herbal mouthwash formulations have gained significant attention due to their safety profile, cost-effectiveness, and superior biocompatibility compared to conventional chemical mouthwashes. The present review focuses on the development and scientific evaluation of a herbal mouthwash containing Mimosa pudica and Moringa oleifera seed powder as natural tannin-reducing agents. Mimosa pudica possesses strong antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties, while Moringa oleifera seeds exhibit efficient coagulant, flocculating, and antioxidant abilities capable of reducing tannins, turbidity, and microbial load. Together, these herbs offer a promising alternative for improving oral hygiene by controlling plaque formation, reducing tannin-induced staining, neutralizing free radicals, and enhancing overall oral health. This review discusses their phytochemical profile, mechanism of action, formulation strategies, evaluation parameters, and potential future applications in herbal oral-care formulations.
