abstract = {Subgrade soil plays a crucial role in determining the performance and durability of flexible pavements. Weak or moisture-susceptible soils often lead to excessive settlement, reduced bearing capacity, and premature pavement failures. This study investigates the effectiveness of bitumen emulsion as a stabilizing agent for improving the engineering properties of subgrade soil through laboratory experimentation. Different percentages of bitumen emulsion were mixed with locally available soil samples and tested to evaluate variations in Atterberg limits, compaction characteristics, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), and Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS). The experimental results indicate a noticeable reduction in plasticity, improvement in compaction behavior, and a significant increase in bearing capacity and strength characteristics. Additionally, the stabilized soil demonstrated enhanced resistance to moisture damage. An optimum percentage of bitumen emulsion was identified at which maximum strength improvement was achieved. The findings suggest that stabilization using bitumen emulsion is an effective, economical, and sustainable technique for enhancing subgrade soil performance and increasing the service life of flexible pavements.},
