abstract = {Women's education is a vital component of social progress, gender equality, and national development. The history of women's education in Andhra Pradesh reflects a gradual transformation from limited educational opportunities and social restrictions to increased access and participation in various levels of education. In the early periods, women's education was confined to a small section of society and was significantly affected by social customs and cultural barriers. During the nineteenth century, social reformers such as Kandukuri Veeresalingam played a crucial role in promoting female education and challenging traditional practices that restricted women's learning opportunities. The introduction of modern education during the British period and the expansion of educational institutions further contributed to the growth of women's education in the region. After Independence, constitutional provisions, educational policies, literacy programmes, scholarship schemes, and government initiatives accelerated the development of women's education in Andhra Pradesh. As a result, female literacy rates improved considerably, and women's participation in school, higher, professional, and technical education increased. However, challenges such as poverty, gender discrimination, early marriage, rural-urban disparities, inadequate infrastructure, and the digital divide continue to affect educational access and achievement among women. The present study examines the historical evolution of women's education in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting major developments, contributions of social reformers, government interventions, achievements, and persistent challenges. The study emphasises the importance of education in empowering women and promoting social and economic development. It concludes that continued efforts are necessary to ensure equitable and quality educational opportunities for all women and to strengthen their role in the progress of Andhra Pradesh.},
